OLAC Client Survey Results

With the encouragement of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the assistance of the Napa Consulting Group, the Office of Laboratory Animal Care (OLAC) revised their Client Survey. The new 2004 web-based survey was distributed to all campus animal users during the first two weeks of March. The only other OLAC Client Survey had been distributed in May 2001 and although the results provided valuable information only 20 individuals completed the survey.

To encourage participation this 2004 survey was distributed with a cover letter from the Vice Chancellor for Research outlining the importance of users' feedback. As a result, 90 individuals completed the survey. The respondents were evenly distributed among faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, research associates, and staff.

OLAC's objectives for this survey were: 1) to gather information regarding client satisfaction with OLAC services, 2) to both assess usage and provide information regarding current OLAC programs and resources, and 3) to identify areas where programmatic improvement may be needed.

1. Client Satisfaction received an over all score of 78% for all 'often to always and good to excellent' responses.

2. Usage of Programs and Resources Seventy-seven percent of the respondents were aware of the OLAC web site and used the online resources. Of those responding 77% rated OLAC training programs either good or excellent.

3. Areas to Target for Improvement a. Increase awareness of and participation in the OLAC facility orientation and training programs b. Modify the OLAC web site to make material more accessible c. Discuss strategies for moving sometimes and acceptable responses to always and excellent responses

Thank you to everyone who completed a survey.

We appreciate your time and value your input. We will do our best to respond appropriately to all areas of concern.

Dr. Helen Diggs
Director, Office of Laboratory Animal Care
